Topic: Tips and Tricks / Designing for Mobile

Volantis published an nteresting guide for designers of mobile websites

It mentions a couple of details specific to Volantis Mobility Server, but most part of the guide is just general best practices for mobile websites, perfectly applicable for sites created with Ubik Mobilizer.

Topic: Feature Requests / Image Gallery enhancements

Image gallery is a very cool feature. However there’s a couple of things that could be improved

1) Gallery generates some English texts (“Go back”, “Tags”), which cannot be turned off or modified. Thus the gallery is of limited use for non-English websites. It would be great if:

a) gallery was properly localized, so owner of the site could choose the language, or

b) the texts could be modified, so site owner could enter texts in the language of the site, or

c) English texts were replaced with something language-independent

2) The layout of thumbnail images on better-grade devices seems to be fixed to two columns. Even if I choose to show one thumbnail per page, the image occupies only the left half of the available space, with a lot of empty space to the right.

3) On mobile preview, clicking the numbers shows “File not found”

Topic: Feature Requests / Single point of entrance?

If I go to sites such as www.disney.com or www.discovery.com with a mobile device, I’m automatically taken to their mobile version. This is very cool. So I also want users entering my site with mobile devices to be automatically redirected to its moble version created with Mobilizer. Does Ubik offer a service facilitating creation of such a single point of entrance?

Topic: General Discussion / Search Engines

Here is the query showing all the pages from published mobilizer sites indexed by Google: click

Not so many pages yet, but we need to give Google time to index them.
