Customer domain name and CNAME
|

Hi, I am trying to create a cname record in my dns to point to runtime.ubik.net, so that I can use my own domain name. I have followed the instructions on this site and I have spoken to my registrar support team and they have said that the information I have given them is incomplete:
There value in cname is missing. Typical CNAME record looks like this with 2 values. CNAME Records: Example mail – pop.easyspace.everyone.net. You have given me the 2nd value (runtime.ubik.net.) but the not the first.
What is the first value that I need to provide them to complete the configuration? Many thanks |

hello, the first value is what you want your site URL to be, ie – yoursite.yourdomain.com so the full record is: yoursite.yourdomain.com IN CNAME runtime.ubik.net |

Hi, I pointed an existing sub-domain (from my domain) to runtime.ubik.net but I get the following apache error while accesing via my domain: " Error 404 Site runtimenot found" (description The requested resource (Site runtimenot found) is not available.) The curious thing is that if I try to access from the ubik url it works perfect. Could you please help me?? Thanks for your support! |

Could you please post domain name and site name, so we could check where the problem is. |

Hi, 1. I wish to double check if I should point example.domain.com to runtime.ubik.net or to domain.ubik.net (domain is the name for the site created in step 1). 2. While trying to create a CNAME record I was asked to create a corresponding A record which needs to be pointed to an IP address. Could you please advise how to proceed with this. Kind regards Arjun |

Hello, 1. yes, you point the CNAME at runtime.ubik.net (per help here – http://ubik.com/tutorial/en/mobilizer/mobilizer_alternative_dns.html) 2. you should not need the IP association, but if it’s required by your provider, point it at runtime.ubik.net IP, which is 4.71.173.69 |

Hi! They said that it was impossible to set CNAME record for the domain root, so they set it for the WWW record. |

Hi, it’s not possible to point single (sub)domain at two directions, so you’ll need something like www.domain.com – pointing at your PC site and mobile.domain.com pointing at runtime.ubik.net via CNAME record |
